Description
ORIGINS:
This pendant is made using an armorial wax seal of unknown origin, from a large collection acquired at auction. The pendant is stamped with a heraldic crest, also known as a “coat of arms”. Although the origin of the crest is unknown, the elements in the design carry meaning.
MEANING OF SYMBOLS:
The Crest depicts a shield divided by a “moline” cross, which symbolizes the mutual converse of human society. Each section the cross divides contains a different element. The top quadrant houses the letter “D” – letters were used to represent great battles or tournaments that begin with that letter. The right quadrant depicts a star, symbolizing excellence, celestial goodness, or a noble person. The bottom quadrant shows the profile of a knight’s helmet, which is understood to represent the soul guiding the body, or man’s journey through life. Finally, the left quadrant, which contains a moon, meaning serene power over mundane actions. Behind the shield are two swords, known to mean justice and military honour. Finally, above the shield sits a royal crown, which indicates royal or seigniorial authority.
PENDANT:
This pendant is made out of 99% pure fine silver, and hand stamped with a wax seal with an armorial crest. Each pendant is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these pendants are truly unique, and no two pendants are the same (unlike pendants cast from a mold).
DIMENSIONS: The pendant is approximately 1.5″ across.
This listing is for the PENDANT ONLY and does not necessarily include a chain.
CHAIN LENGTH: If you choose to purchase the pendant on a chain, the chain is sterling silver, brass, gold plated brass or copper, 16″ long or 18″ long.
