Description
ORIGINS:
This pendant is made using an antique wax seal from the Napoleonic Era (the early-to-mid 1800s). The seal is part of an etuie set that holds more than 50 different seals with inspiring messages.
MEANING:
Pictured around an antique style pocket watch are the French words “Calme Au Dehors – Agitee Au Dedans”, translated to “Calm On The Outside – Churning Within “. The more modern meaning of this talisman would be to “Keep Calm and Carry On”. It’s a wonderful reminder that things are not always as they seem, and to put on a ‘brave face’ or a ‘stiff upper lip’. Whilst the external appearance may seem calm, cool and collected, on the inside it may not be the case. The watch is symbolic of the passing of time, but also suits the motto since it gently ticks on the outside, but when opened you can see all the complicated clockwork and machinery within.
PENDANT:
This pendant is made out of pure copper, and hand stamped with an antique wax seal.
Each pendant is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these pendants are truly unique, and no two pendants are the same (unlike pendants cast from a mold).
Instead of drilling a hole through the copper and thereby ruining the beautiful imprint of the seal, the pendent is set with a copper bail and jumpring. These extra details make this piece heirloom quality, and a timeless treasure that can be passed down through generations.
DIMENSIONS: The pendant is slightly larger than 3/4″ across.
This listing is for the PENDANT ONLY and does not necessarily include a chain.
CHAIN LENGTH: If you choose to purchase the pendant on a chain, the chain is sterling silver, brass, gold plated brass or copper, 16″ long or 18″ long.
