Description
ORIGINS:
This pendant is made using an antique wax seal of a rose. The seal is hallmarked “made in England” but the date is unknown.
MEANING:
The rose carries many meanings, the most well known of which is True Love. Beauty and Passion are also symbolically represented by a rose, and in ancient Rome the phrase “sub rosa” (literally “under the rose”) meant to keep a secret. A wild rose would be placed on the door of a room where secret or confidential matters were discussed.
The rose is also the national flower of England, after Henry VII introduced the Tudor rose as a symbol of unity between two ancient houses who both had different roses as their siegels – the House of York had a white rose and the House of Lancaster had a red one. The two roses were combined after the Wars of Roses creating the Tudor Rose.
PENDANT:
This pendant is made out of fine silver (99.9% pure), and hand stamped with an antique wax seal of an English rose.
Each pendant is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these pendants are truly unique, and no two pendants are the same (unlike silver pendants cast from a mold). It’s then attached to a sterling silver jump ring, that is soldered shut.
DIMENSIONS: The pendant is slightly larger than 1/2″ across.
This listing is for the PENDANT ONLY and does not necessarily include a chain.
CHAIN LENGTH: If you choose to purchase the pendant on a chain, the chain is sterling silver, brass, gold plated brass or copper, 16″ long or 18″ long.
