Description
ORIGINS:
This necklace is made using an antique Wax Seal of a Scottish Thistle that dates back to the late 1700′s. The national flower of Scotland, one thistle is said to have saved an entire Scottish army. A sharp, pointy flower, the meaning behind the thistle is “No One Provokes Me With Impunity”. It has the words “Dinna Forget” written above the flower – a beautiful memento for any Scotsman far from home.
MEANING:
During the Viking’s invasion of Scotland over one thousand years ago, an enemy warrior advancing on a Scottish army stepped on a thistle and cried out in pain. His cry inadvertently woke the sleeping Scotsmen, saving them from a surprise attack. Grateful for the help of a single flower, Scottish King Kenneth III adopted the thistle as his nation’s emblem. The thistle now is known as a symbol for strength, unity and friendship. The words “Dinna Forget” (meaning “Don’t Forget”) complement the whole story and serve as a reminder to any Scotsman of ‘bonnie Scotland”.
PENDANT:
This seal is made out of pure silver (.999FS), and hand stamped with a wax seal of a Scottish Thistle. The reverse is hallmarked with our makers mark and silver content.
Each seal is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these seal stampings are truly unique, and no two stampings are the same (unlike those cast from a mold).
Instead of drilling a hole through the silver and thereby ruining the beautiful imprint of the seal, the pendent is set with a matching bail and jump ring. These extra details make this piece heirloom quality, and a timeless treasure that can be passed down through generations.
DIMENSIONS: The seal is slightly larger than 1/2″ across.
This listing is for the PENDANT ONLY and does not necessarily include a chain.
CHAIN LENGTH: If you choose to purchase the pendant on a chain, the chain is sterling silver, brass, gold plated brass or copper, 16″ long or 18″ long.
